Religious School

The Religious School at Adat Shalom seeks to instill a love of Judaism in our students. Our goal is to help our students to acquire the framework needed to help them grow as informed and committed Jews, and to begin to cherish their Jewish heritage. The skills they learn will enable them to practice Judaism in their own home, in school, and in the community.

At Adat Shalom, we offer a learning atmosphere that embraces the student and promotes the expression of ideas in an accepting environment. Students are encouraged to ask questions and to seek answers as they learn about their heritage. We work toward creating young Jewish students who are caring and respectful of others, of our environment, and especially to those in need.

Our religious school program is staffed by committed Jews who value the education of the next generation and guide students as they learn. Each of our teachers is a positive role model for our students.

Through our course of study, we focus on Mitzvot, Tzedakah, Klal Yisrael, Prayer, the Hebrew language, Israel, History, Holidays and Life Cycles. We strive to strengthen our students’ faith in God, love of Torah, and identification with the Jewish people and their culture. Through Tzedakah, specialized Mitzvah projects and educational field trips, we emphasize connections between Jewish tradition and the greater world beyond our walls.

We offer opportunities for personal growth beyond Bar and Bat Mitzvah age by encouraging our Religious School graduates to continue their education as Confirmation students under the instruction of Rabbi Lehrer. Many of our Religious School graduates become Teacher Assistants. In this position, they continue their exploration of Judaism and act as role models for the younger students. Our Teacher Assistants are given the chance to plan special programming for the younger grades. This helps them to cultivate leadership skills while deepening their connection to their faith and the Jewish Community.
