Ways to Give

Many of our programs and expenses are funded by contributions, whether they are called dues, gifts or pledges. We have established several funds within the Synagogue. We encourage you to use these funds as a way of honoring or remembering friends and relatives. Give a gift of tzedakah to the Synagogue on the occasion of an anniversary, a birthday, graduation, marriage, birth, recovery from illness, or in memory of a departed friend or loved one. A note, acknowledging your contribution, will be sent to the family honored or remembered by you.

Adat Shalom currently has the following funds established. From time to time as our Synagogue grows, new funds may be added to satisfy particular needs of our congregation.
A contribution form can be found at the following link: Contribution Mail-In Form 7-31-19

ADAT SHALOM PRESCHOOL FUND: Donations for the Preschool fund support the purchase of special items that enhance the preschool experience of our students.

ADULT EDUCATION: The congregation is committed to providing a variety of Adult Education programs to meet the wide area of interests of all of our members. Most of these programs are presented at no charge or for a nominal fee.

ALVIN AND MARGARET WEINBERG MILLIGRAM  FUND IN SUPPORT OF ADAT SHALOM RELIGIOUS SCHOOL:  Established by the late Dr. Emerson Milligram in memory of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Milligram were long-time residents of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, home of Beth Jacob Congregation. Beth Jacob joined with B’nai Israel Congregation of Pittsburgh to form Adat Shalom in 1995. Contributions to this fund will help families in need of tuition support. Dr. Milligram, a college professor for more than 45 years, directed that scholarships should be used to help defray the cost of Jewish education for Jewish students.

BUILDING FUND(formerly named the “General Fund”): These monies are used for the general operations of the Synagogue, including physical upkeep, repair and improvement, as well as general programming.

CONTEMPORARY SERVICE FUND:Donations are used by the Contemporary Services Committee to provide Kiddush luncheons for the entire Congregation following our scheduled Contemporary services.

DR. SAUL AND EMMA FLEEGLER LIBRARY FUND: Named in honor of Dr. Saul and Emma Fleegler who made a very generous contribution to ensure the perpetuity of our library at Adat Shalom and of our spiritual home. Dr. and Mrs. Fleegler valued books and learning and strived to set an example of giving for others by enhancing our synagogue with this beautiful library.  Donations to this fund provide for the purchase of books  and magazines, as well as library supplies.

KAREN A. SHAPIRA ISRAEL ROOM FUND:Dedicated to the memory of Karen A. Shapira in August, 2009, the Adat Shalom Israel room is an interactive learning experience for students of all ages.

MARGARET’S GARDENFUND:Through sorrow comes great beauty. Part of the overall concept in the construction of our chapel was the inclusion of a Contemplative Garden dedicated in memory of Margaret Schwartz Furman by her parents, Dr. Jonathan and Roberta Schwartz. Donations to this fund are used for the upkeep of the garden.

MEN’S CLUB AND SISTERHOOD FUND:Everyone is aware of the great work that these two auxiliary organizations do to further the interest of our congregation both socially and spiritually.  Both organizations have done numerous projects for our synagogue and help fund the schools. The importance of these two organizations should never be underestimated by our congregation.

MEYER & HELEN GISSER CHILDREN’S LIBRARY FUND: Funds donated to the Meyer Gisser Children’s Library Fund are used for the purchase of children’s books for the Dr. Saul and Emma Fleegler Library and for the Preschool Library.

PRAYER BOOK FUND: All donations to this fund are held in escrow and directed towards the purchase of new prayer books (Siddur Hadash) and Humashim (Etz Hayim).  A book plate may be inserted in honor of happy events or “in memory of” departed loved ones.

RABBI’S DISCRETIONARY FUND: Donations are used by the Rabbi, at his discretion, for the betterment of the congregation and the Jewish community.

THE TORAH MAINTENANCE FUND: Monies are used to maintain the upkeep and repairs needed on our Torahs.
