Yahrzeit
Is the Yiddish word meaning the anniversary of a death.
Yahrzeit, or Memorial Plaques may be dedicated in memory of loved ones and are displayed in the Sanctuary and on memorial tablets at Adat Shalom. Memorial Plaques contain individual lights and are inscribed with the name of the deceased and the date of death. Memorial lights are kindled on the month of an individual’s Yahrzeit. All Memorial Plaques are lighted on the 4 Jewish Holidays that include a Yizkor service.
Memorial Plaques are dedicated at our annual Yom Kippur Yizkor Service. In addition, names of the deceased are read during Shabbat services the week of a Yahrzeit. Family members receive notification of a Yahrtzeit so they have an opportunity to recite Kaddish.
